Articulate is a communication based game where you compete against other teams to gain points by guessing what one of your team members is trying to describe. Somewhat like charades but your team mate is allowed to talk just not allowed to say the word on the card. This game uses memory – knowing what your describing, collaboration – communicating the word to your team and also chance – which is used when you get the chance to spin the arrow to try get the opposing team further away from the goal.
What makes the game fun? Being a rapid fire word game there can be allot of laughing and giggling about people getting things wrong or describing the wrong thing as they don’t know what the word is. The game does require allot of communication and it helps you to get to know people and the way they think or process certain things. Iv’e found in my experience it helped me to gain some confidence when trying to guess or get my word guessed.
The core mechanic for the game has to be communication, you need to be able to communicate your words to your team effectively and under a time limit. If your not good at communicating your thoughts and ideas this game would be good for you to play as it helps with thought process and getting your ideas across in a timely manner.
If I could improve the game I would make the chance to move your team forward or the enemy team back higher, some rounds of this game don’t even utilise the “sabotage” mechanic. I would like to see this be able to happen more often, maybe making the space that you land on to achieve this is more frequent.
I feel like the main audience for this game is family and friend, this is because of the collaborative and competitive nature of this game. For age range I would say older family and friends above 20 as the game does include some hard things you have to describe especially in the person section. This is probably why the creators of this game made a children’s version which I imagine has more simpler words to describe and even for the person category could be cartoon or animated characters.
